SPINTEL had the idea to provide a service that would give end-users an advantage in the evolving fantasy sports industry through better access to statistics. The team was looking to provide a web-based tool to foster a community around statistics and key data points –including those from the well known Elias Sports Bureau.


The SPINTEL team engaged with Windmill for product strategy, experience design, and web development services. The Windmill team worked closely with SPINTEL to design the MVP and initial market tests, as well as to develop a platform for the SPINTEL team to use.

Sports Data Startup

The fantasy sports industry is saturated with products and services that seem useful but don’t deliver the kind of experience users seek. SPINTEL wanted to create a service that would give users exactly what they need: fast access to the key stats in a simple, easy-to-use app.

We began by determining user needs through our unique design thinking processes and cross- analyzing our findings with the client for accuracy. Next, we developed MVPs and initial market tests through an agile process that enabled us to quickly adjust strategy to reflect evolving market concerns. This helped us deliver an optimized and user-friendly product to the SPINTEL team.

Our Agile Process in Action

The Idea

To meet the stakeholders goal—to connect personally to the first users during the initial launch— our first design concept included a signup wall that required users to login before they could fully view all available content.

The Reality

Although successful in connecting to the initial users, predictably the signup wall caused a relatively high bounce rate when content was shared.

The Pivot

We spent the next two weeks planning, designing and building a new open-style concept to entice new visitors and optimize user experience, without the signup wall.
